About Respiratory Ailments </spa
Do have a look at our treatment offer in Respiratory Department.
Allergy and Asthma
Asthma is a chronic disease that affects the airways of your lungs asthma causes swelling and increased mucus in the airways and squeezing of the muscles around the airways. Allergies are reactions of your immune system on exposure to certain things.
ILD
ILD is a group of respiratory diseases affecting the interstitium(tissue and space around the air sacs of the lungs). Symptoms include shortness of breath, nonproductive coughing, fatigue, and weight loss.
Pneumonia
Pneumonia is an inflammatory condition of the lung primarily affecting the small air sacs known as alveoli. It is mainly caused by infection with viruses or bacteria.
COPD
Chronic Obstructive Pulmonary Disease (COPD) is a preventable and treatable lung disease. People with COPD must work harder to breathe, which can lead to breathing difficulty and/or feeling tired.
Tuberculosis
Tuberculosis i.e. TB is an infectious disease usually caused by Mycobacterium tuberculosis bacteria. Tuberculosis affects the lungs, but it may affect other parts of the body.
Pleural Effusion
A pleural effusion is an accumulation of excessive fluid in the pleural space, the potential space that surrounds each lung.
Smoking Cessation Clinic
All forms of smoking whether active or second hand smoke, causes not only lungs disease but also other system diseases. Tobacco smoking is one of the leading cause of preventable death. Smoking cessation clinic gives intensive treatments to smokers motivated to quit, ensuring a higher success rate.
Vaccination
Vaccines are the products that help us to prevent common respiratory diseases. The recommended vaccines for respiratory diseases are influenza and pneumococcal vaccines. Vaccines are usually indicated for chronic respiratory diseases or those who are having recurrent respiratory tract infections.
Sleep Study
Polysomnography is a comprehensive test used to diagnose sleep disorders. It records your brain waves, the oxygen level in your blood, heart rate and breathing, as well as eye and leg movements during the study. Home sleep apnea testing uses a limited number of sensors to focus primarily on diagnosing obstructive sleep apnea (OSA).
Lab's Testing </spa
Spirometry is the most common pulmonary function test (PFT). It measures lung function, the amount (volume), and speed (flow) of air that can be inhaled and exhaled. PFT identifies conditions such as asthma, pulmonary fibrosis, cystic fibrosis, and COPD.
The six-minute walk test is a very simple and inexpensive cardiopulmonary function test that measures a non-specific, integrated assessment of the multiple systems involved during physical activity. In lung diseases, it is particularly useful in assessing and monitoring COPD, ILD, and pulmonary arterial hypertension.
Diffusing capacity of the lung measures the transfer of gas from the air in the lung to the red blood cells in lung blood vessels.
Test typically involves applying a pulse oximeter that is usually connected via a cable to a small box that records the data overnight. Any decrease in oxygen and variation in pulse is noted and used in the initial evaluation of whether you have one of the more common sleep disorders.
Bronchoscopy
Bronchoscopy is a procedure in which examination of airways is done with the help of an endoscope, called a bronchoscope.
What are the indications of bronchoscopy?
Diagnostic indications
- Examination of airways
- Biopsy of a suspected lung cancer
- Lymph node sampling
- Bronchial lavage for the diagnosis of infection and other lung diseases
- Bronchial bruising
Therapeutic indications
- Tumour debulking
- Tracheal and bronchial stunting
- Bronchial thermoplastic
CT and USG guided transthoracic pulmonary procedure
These are the procedures done under real-time CT or ultrasound guidance. These procedures can be done under USG guidance.
Procedures under USG guidance
- Pleural aspiration
- Pigtail catheter insertion
- Pleural biopsy
Procedures under CT guidance
- Lung Biopsy
- FNA from the peripheral lesion
Tube Thoracostomy
Tuber thoracotomy or intercostal tube drainage (ICTD) is a surgical procedure to put a tube in pleural cavity in order to remove air , fluid, pus or blood from the pleural cavity.
It is indicated in
- Pneumothorax
- Located pleural effusion
- Malignant pleural effusion
- Hydropneumothorax
Pleural Effusion
What is Pleural Effusion ?
A pleural effusion is an accumulation of excessive fluid in the pleural space, the potential space that surrounds each lung.
How Pleural Fluid is removed ?
Pleural fluid is drawn out of the pleural space in a process called thoracentesis, and it should be done in almost all patients who have pleural fluid that is at least 10 mm in thickness on CT Scan or ultrasonography.
Cause of Pleural Effusion ?
- Pneumonia
- Malignancy
- Infections
- Tuberculosis
- Trauma
- Pulmonary infarction
- Pulmonary embolism
- Autoimmune disorders
- Pancreatitis
- Ruptured esophagus
and many other conditions.
